  1. This blog is most appreciated — it’s very helpful and insightful. As a copy editor and adviser for a young author who is trying to self publish, I am seeking advise on what steps to take when the publishing company errs and doesn’t offer effective or timely solutions to correct their mistakes. Are there posts that cover that topic?

Thanks for the comment. I don’t know if you are referring to a specific situation or just a general question, but I think the key is to always go back to the contract whether you are publishing with a traditional publisher or a self-publishing services company.

  2. Yes, there is a specific situation with an agreement to return materials (original artwork for the book’s illustrations). The author’s check-in coordinator, who devised the plan, and an assistant production manager say they may be lost in the company’s mail room but there is such a large amount of returned or undelivered mail that it can’t be located quickly. The package was sent to the author’s former address without a tracking number several weeks ago. It’s all pretty alarming and clear answers are not being offered. I’ve asked to be put in touch with the production manager, so hopefully that will happen and that person will have some good ideas for a resolution.

  3. Yep, it seems to be a case of inexperience and the publishing company’s lack of policy. In the meantime, I’m grasping at straws to find some real assistance for this author and her illustrator that doesn’t require long distance travel or an attorney. I had hoped you had a addressed such a situation on your blog, which I truly hope is rare.
