If you have ever been to a grocery store on Saturday morning, you’ve likely seen the aisles filled with a number of people providing samples of products. I think it is something authors could learn from. C.S. Marks, who has published a trilogy of books titled, Elf Hunter, Ravenshade and Fire-Heart. (

), has used this tactic to promote her book series. She has provided her first book on the Kindle for free so that people get interested in the story and purchase the other books in the series. So far she has sold one book for every two she has given away. Since there is no cost for her on Kindle, it is a form of promotion that can reap benefits.
