If you read this blog with any regularity, you’ve seen a theme developing.  Self-publishing is no longer the last option for authors. It’s quickly becoming the driving force in the industry.
The latest evidence: an article in Publishers Weekly titled, Self Publishing TitlesTopped 764,000 in 2009 as Traditional Output Dipped. In this article Jim Milliot reports that the latest Bowker data shows ” the number of “non-traditional” titles dwarfed those of traditional books.”
Included in this category are print-on-demand (POD) self-publishers such as Lulu, CreateSpace and Author Solutions imprints: AuthorHouse, iUniverse, Xlibris and Trafford Publishing.
So now days, if you chose to self-publish, you are not doing so as a last resort. You are on the leading edge.
